June Gardening

Garden Dill & CilantroTowards the middle to end of June you may be able to start enjoying your most early planted vegetables like lettuce, kale, radishes, peas, and spinach.  Tip: when cutting lettuce, kale, and spinach you can cut at the bottom of the stem and it should continue to grow back.  So once you have cut the leafy greens don’t take it out, because it could grow back for a second time and give you even more produce.  Remember to keep watering and killing weeds as the plants continue to grow.  We have a pretty bad weed problem and we recently got a tool that has been pretty helpful so far, but I think this year we’re going to put the grass clippings in between rows to choke out the weeds.  You can try the weed tool or grass clippings between rows and see which works best for you.
